Fivewood Farm is a family owned and operated Farm in Charles City County, VA. Owned by Dr. Douglas Belt of Richmond, his wife Debbie, and their three grown children- Fivewood Farm was purchased in 1998. Fivewood Farm is named after its location just off of Route 5. Route 5, also known as the John Tyler Memorial Highway, is a scenic highway that connects Richmond to Williamsburg and is known for its many historic Plantations along the James River.
Our Farm occupies 65 acres. Most of the land is rented for farming- though a good part of the land is wooded as well. We use roughly 2 acres for gardening. We have been gardening since we have owned the property but have kept it small scale. We thought it would be an exciting project to expand and this is our first venture to sell produce publicly.
We are not certified as organic growers, but we take pride in our healthful growing practices that do not involve the use of chemicals such as pesticides, insecticides or herbicides. We use tilling and hand tools to control weeds. Our water source is a regularly tested deep well.
